Pen and ink drawing by Laurent LolmèdeMoins X Avant 2000, Brut de Carnet and Brut de Comix.
The most striking characteristic of Lolmède’s body of work is his extraordinary attention to detail in depicting scenes from daily life. “La tombe de Jim Morrison, c’était mieux dans les années 80” (“Jim Morrison’s grave was better in the 80s”) is a phenomenal rendering of the spirited gatherings at Jim’s grave during the 80s. It’s all there: the graffiti, the bust, the drugs and alcohol, fans partying, the cats… and much more. The spectacularly accurate and abundant details make this pen and ink drawing an exceptional historical and artistic documentation of Jim’s grave.
“Jim Morrison’s grave was better in the 80s” is part of the collection in Lolmède’s most recent edition entitled Goudron Pavés. You can order a copy directly from the publisher, United Dead Artists, or, if you’re in Paris, you can find it at the comic book shops in the Saint-Michel area.
This work is currently on exhibit at the Bibliothèque Faidherbe (18 Rue Faidherbe, Paris 11) until April 26, 2012.
